The news letter helps us keep a calendar of upcoming events and provides us a place to say thank you.
The different clubs in the churches post information for all in the News Letters

A Message from Pastor Jim

It’s hard for me to believe that six years have passed by so quickly since Polly and I have been coming up to the North Country. Although it will be difficult for us to say GoodBye at the end of June, we are still unclear as to what the future holds. Our plan is to come back periodically and make sure all is well at Redwood and Orleans. But it is also time for a break. In my forty-four years of ministry I have never been comfortable taking off more than a couple of weeks a year. I also have this sense of calling that is not simply erased by the word “retirement.” As I take my next step I do have to be honest about some of the limitations that go with age. Thank you for putting up with them. And special thanks to the wife who whispers to me what your name is and makes sure I know where I am.

This is actually a good season of the Church year to rely on the power of a Holy Spirit to keep us together. No matter who will be leading worship in the months to come, you will experience the beauty of hymns and hear the message from Scriptures. The nice thing about having a liturgical tradition is the fact that every week there is Good News that you can count on. It is also interesing to remember that the North Country does new things as well. Recently I spoke with visitors who had never been to a Kindermesse. They found it uplifting but also got me thinking about the fact that I had never conducted one before coming up North. Now it is part of my tradition and has helped me see the value of doing things in a new way.

As Polly and I reflect on our memories we often talk about a sense of community that we have experienced here. We have been welcomed in an open and caring way that we will never forget. That is the priceless gift for which you will always have our thanks.

Pr. Jim

First Lesson: 2 Kings 5:1 Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man and in high favor with his master, because by him the LORD had given victory to Aram. The man, though a mighty warrior, suffered from leprosy. 7 When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to give death or life, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? 8 But when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent a message to the king, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come to me, that he may learn that there is a prophet in Israel.”
9 So Naaman came with his horses and chariots, and halted at the entrance of Elisha’s house.
10 Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go, wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored and you shall be clean.”
11 But Naaman became angry and went away, saying, “I thought that for me he would surely come out, and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and would wave his hand over the spot, and cure the leprosy! 12 Are not Abanaand Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them, and be clean?” He turned and went away in a rage.
13 But his servants approached and said to him, “Father, if the prophet had commanded you to do something difficult, would you not have done it? How much more, when all he said to you was, ‘Wash, and be clean’?”
14 So he went down and immersed himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; his flesh was restored like the flesh of a young boy, and he was clean.
15 Then he returned to the man of God, he and all his company; he came and stood before him and said, “Now I know that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel

Psalm 111:1 Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
2 Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them.
3 Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.
4 He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the LORD is gracious and merciful.
5 He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.
6 He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.
8 They are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
9 He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever.

Second Reading: 2 Timothy 2:8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David — that is my gospel,
9 for which I suffer hardship, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained.
10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
11 The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we will also live with him;
12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us;
13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful — for he cannot deny himself.
14 Remind them of this, and warn them before God that they are to avoid wrangling over words, which does no good but only ruins those who are listening.
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth.

Gospel: Luke 17:11-19

11 On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee.

12 As he entered a village, ten lepers1 approached him. Keeping their distance,

13 they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

14 When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean.

15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice.

16 He prostrated himself at Jesus’1 feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan.

17 Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they?

18 Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”

19 Then he said to him, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”

Prayer of the Day

Almighty and most merciful God, your bountiful goodness fills all creation. Keep us safe from all that may hurt us, that, whole and well in body and spirit, we may with grateful hearts accomplish all that you would have us do, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

We are looking for help in getting the youth group active and adults to help with away adventures. The Labyrinth is still being maintained and welcomes those interested in the experience of a prayer walk.

Come join our youth group! We have an active membership with lots of activities throughout the year. Teens involved with youth group will be able learn about Christ while having fun with their peers.

The youth have been working on presentations on their year in confirmation class. They are looking forward to joining the church on Reformation Sunday.

The youth have been active in creating a Labyrinth on the land based on the St. Chartres Labyrinth at the church. The labyrinth is referred to as a prayer walk. Studies have shown people who undergo chemo therapy do better when they walk a labyrinth. The emphasis when walking the Labyrinth is to place all your concerns as you walk in, in silent prayer. In the center listen for a message from God and listen in silence and or share a time of bible readings or reflection on the feelings experienced when walking in. Walk out in silence and listen for messages to help you live in the world. It takes about half hour to walk into the labyrinth so there is time for reflection and listening.

July 25-29 Confirmation Camp 7AM- 7PM or stay @ the Gee Camp.

Prepare presentation for church

Everyone helps prepare meals and clean up

There was time each day to enjoy swimming. We were blessed to be given permission to use a floating raft by Joel Zimmer and Laura.

Some were stronger than others. But all were good swimmers. We also enjoyed paddling kayaks because of the generosity of Hearts for Youth in Alexandria Bay, started by Penny Heath.

We were blessed to have the use of the shore of Bob & Marilyn Payne and Diana & Leon Zimmer.

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

“If one member suffers, all suffer together with it;
if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it.”
–1 Corinthians 12:26

More than two weeks have passed since the devastating earthquake in Haiti. The outpouring of gifts from members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) to ELCA Disaster Response has enabled a swift response on behalf of this church.

Thank you for your generous financial support which now totals more than $2.5 million. Many gifts are still being counted. Our community-based partners are already providing:

Two water purification systems to bring clean water to 25,000 people.

Emergency food and medical supplies to thousands.

Blankets and tents to shelter 10,000 people who are homeless.

Funding, distributed through three partners, will increase as giving continues.

$300,000 has been sent to The Lutheran World Federation (LWF), a key responder and member of Action by Churches Together (ACT). The funds support LWF efforts to provide shelter to people left homeless by the quake.

$150,000 has been sent to Lutheran World Relief (LWR), Baltimore, for material aid.

$150,000 has been sent to Church World Service (CWS) for construction of temporary water systems and distribution of water purification materials.

In addition, $25,000 has been sent to Lutheran Services of Florida for initial support to refugees and Haitian Americans entering or returning to the United States.

We are pleased that Louis Dorvillier, director for International Development and Disaster Response in the ELCA Global Mission program unit, is part of a delegation to his country of origin with LWF and ACT.

Your generosity makes this life-saving work possible. As we celebrate this outpouring of gifts and prayers, we also know that we have a long road to travel together. There is so much more to be done. This church is committed to walking with our brothers and sisters in Haiti for years to come; your continued support is needed to provide ongoing care.
